That‘s why I was wondering why this was missing from Paula‘s Choice list of products containing animal-byproducts. So I contacted them and got the following reply:

This is really interesting! According to CodeCheck the Retinol is chemically-derived. I am glad to know that this potentially makes products* such as the Skin Recovery Concentrate Serum with Retinol vegan.
I researched some more information on synthetic retinol, and I‘d recommend to read this article if you are interested.
Update: I got a response and some additional info on synthetic Retinol from @PaulasChoice:
@vgnbeautystudio Thanks! PS, all retinol used in topical products is synthetic. Natural retinol can’t be stabilized in a cosmetic formula.
