Is Retinol in Paula‘s Choice products vegan?

Are Paula‘s Choice Products containing Retinol vegan? Vegan Beauty Studio investigates.

Retinol is one of the ingredients known to avoid if you’re vegan (amongst other things). „Retinol“ is commonly used to describe the animal-derived form of Vitamin A.

That‘s why I was wondering why this was missing from Paula‘s Choice list of products containing animal-byproducts. So I contacted them and got the following reply:

Dear Kathrin,

Thank you for contacting us. Yes, the Retinol sourced is not of animal origin, so perfectly fine for vegans! I hope this is helpful, and let us know if you have any further questions!

This is really interesting! According to CodeCheck the Retinol is chemically-derived. I am glad to know that this potentially makes products* such as the Skin Recovery Concentrate Serum with Retinol vegan.

I researched some more information on synthetic retinol, and I‘d recommend to read this article if you are interested.

Update: I got a response and some additional info on synthetic Retinol from @PaulasChoice:

*As always, please keep in mind that Paula’s Choice is not a 100% vegan company, so make sure to check their list of products with animal ingredients before purchasing.
