So, ordering from e.l.f. is probably a no-brainer for US citizens, but for us Euros it‘s sort of a new thing. Plus the german online shop looks like it‘s stuck in 2003 and it seems like they do not have the full product range over here. For example, their infamous NARS Orgasm dupe St. Lucia blush & contour set is nowhere to be found. Anyways, I was curious about trying out products from this brand despite reading all kinds of mixed reviews. So I decided to do a little research beforehand to gather info about their best products.
Also I‘m desperately looking for a great vegan mascara and concealer, which has been my mission since 2011 basically.
Now, on to the picture evidence of the haul:
e.l.f. mineral lipstick in »rosy raisin«
My lipstick collection consists of roughly 80% red and bright pink lipsticks, and a few regrettable choices of unflattering nude tones. Recently I felt like there was lack of everyday yourlipsbutbetter lip colours in my life, so I set out to find some kind of rosewood-ish colour. Which was a tough choice because it‘s pretty much impossible to get an idea of the shades when viewing the teensy-tiny images in the german online shop. You pretty much depend on researching swatches. In this case, devoting a couple minutes to research turned out to be quite successful for me. Rosy raisin is a great neutral with a slight hint of coral.
e.l.f. eyeshadow in »raspberry truffle«
This one was another good find. I adore this colour and have been hunting for a burgundy eyeshadow since last fall. Sadly the shade doesn‘t turn out quite as red-toned when applied, it‘s more of a warm brown – but I think this one might turn out better when used with an eyeshadow primer.
e.l.f. hd blush in »headliner«
Apparently this is a great dupe for MUFE‘s HD Blush, and one of the brand‘s key items. If you dig cream/liquid blush, you should give this a try. I find it‘s easy to work with and you can layer it. I was surprised how small the bottle is, but you really need the tiniest amount of product to fake a healthy looking complexion.
e.l.f. eyebrow kit in »ash«
well, the darker set is not available over here, but this one‘s too light for me. Currently I‘m using a darker shadow and mix it with the synthetic wax on the left.
e.l.f. maximum coverage concealer in »sand«
Seeing as I‘m really pale (NC15) this one sadly is too dark for me 🙁 I‘m also really bummed that there‘s a lighter shade that‘s not being sold in the german store. Otherwise I like the consistency and coverage.
e.l.f. 3 in 1 mascara
…or as I like to call it, »the mace«. This wasn‘t my favorite choice, because I‘m a sucker for tons of volume and feathery, fluttery lashes. But their volumizing mascara was only available in brown, and I insist on using black. So 3 in 1 mascara it was.
So does it lengthen the lashes? I guess so. Does it define? Yup. Does it give volume? Hell no. Actually this exact look of my lashes as shown here is a prime example of what I‘m not fond of at all. It‘s way too wet and goopy, and I can only put on a single coat or else it kinda glues together all of my lashes and looks really horrible. Also it‘s really hard to remove.
What do you guys think about e.l.f. cosmetics? I‘d love to hear your opinions!
